How do I set mouse and trackpad scrolling separately on a Mac?
The short answer. With macOS System Settings alone the mouse and trackpad often follow the same scroll direction. To set them separately, use KittyKit separate scroll direction (Pro): for example traditional for the mouse and natural for the trackpad.
Why set them separately?
On a trackpad, “natural” scrolling, where the content follows your fingers, feels right, but many people prefer the “traditional” direction on a mouse wheel, where rolling the wheel down moves the content down as on Windows. Changing the direction in macOS System Settings often affects both devices, which makes it hard to use them differently.
How to set it in KittyKit
- Open KittyKit Settings > Mouse & Trackpad.
- For the mouse and the trackpad each, pick “Follow System Settings”, “Natural” or “Traditional”.
This is a Pro feature that needs the Accessibility permission, with a 7-day free trial.
