This app is notarized by Apple, so it opens without an “unidentified developer” warning. Because it was downloaded from the internet, if macOS asks once whether you want to open it, click Open.
Install
- Open
KittyKit_0-4-0.dmgand dragKittyKittoApplications. - Eject the DMG.
First launch
- Open
KittyKitfromApplications. - If a “downloaded from the internet” confirmation appears, click Open.
- When KittyKit appears in the menu bar, the installation is done.
Enter a free code (Pro free for life · limited-time offer)
- Copy the free code (
KKB-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) you received by email or message. - In KittyKit Settings → the Get Pro tab, paste it into the key field (“Bought Pro or have a free code? Enter your key”) and click Activate.
- When it changes to Free code in use · Pro free for life, you're done. You need an internet connection to activate, and once activated it stays active without one.
A code is tied to one Mac and can't be moved to another Mac. Deleting and reinstalling the app on the same Mac is fine. If you don't have a code, request one at [email protected]. Even without a code, you can try every Pro feature first with Try Pro free for 7 days in Settings.
Allow permissions
KittyKit needs the permissions below to detect key presses. A guide appears on first launch. What you type is never stored or sent.
- Input Monitoring: always needed (rules for a lone key such as Right ⌘).
- Accessibility: needed for combination-key rules such as
⇧ + Spaceand for Pro features such as Windows shortcuts, window layout, focus screen and separate scroll direction.
In System Settings → Privacy & Security, turn on KittyKit for each item.
Updating to a new version
Before overwriting KittyKit in Applications with the one from the new DMG, quit it from the KittyKit menu in the menu bar. If a build's signature has changed, permissions may be reset. If so, remove KittyKit in System Settings with − and allow it again.
If something goes wrong
- If pressing the switch key does nothing, check the status line in the KittyKit menu bar menu (it shows when a permission is needed).
- If you use it together with other key-remapping apps (Karabiner and the like) or a virtual machine (Parallels and the like), please let us know.
- Please don't include what you typed in feedback. Your keyboard, the input source pair and your macOS version are enough.
